Ok, so what does Souper Bowls and cooking have to do with Shopping or Sightseeing our Touring Victoria? Nothing – But I figured I’m “That Girl” who owns this website so…. I can write about what ever I want to!
Ha!
So let me just give you a lead up to this story:
During the winter months when tourism slows down I take on the task of chairing the Souper Bowls of Hope Event which is held in April and raises money for the Youth Empowerment Society – aka – YES. YES, provides programs for Youth at Risk in Victoria. The event revolves around “Bowls and Soup” just in case you missed the SOUP in Souper Bowls.
So, our Social Media guru Lisa Roughley of Roughley speaking communications set a task for all the committee members to make a soup – take a photo and submit our favorite recipe for our Facebook page….and Voila – here it is – my cooking night with my daughter for Souper Bowls of Hope.
Choosing the recipe was no easy task. We started digging through my cupboard of ripped-out pages of magazines – recipes from the internet and stacks of recipe books – and then we found this little GEM: Crazy Plates –published in 1999 by two sisters Janet & Greta Podleski. This book was a slam dunk favorite when my girls were young. Healthy recipes with catchy Content and Recipe titles like “Nat’s King Coleslaw” & “I got Stew, Babe”, “The sweets of San Francisco” and “The Big Chilli” —- you get the idea.
Well skimming through the “My Fair Ladle” soup section of the book – and low and behold!!! we came across this recipe called “THE SOUPER BOWL CHOWDER”. Perfect – NO? YES!
